LCDC: Housing plan looks like a mess

| May 7, 2014 9:00 PM

I am writing this letter as a concerned homeowner of midtown Coeur d’Alene.

LCDC is planning to build a three-story building consisting of 38 rental units of “work force” housing, plus 1,400 square feet of retail rental space on the northwest corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Fourth Street. It will extend to the free midtown parking area.

They want us to believe that this will raise our property value and bring more foot traffic into midtown.

I believe it will lower our property value and increase auto traffic into an already highly congested intersection.

There are so many other issues to this project as well:

Do we really want three stories of “work force” housing on the main corridor out of downtown?

What types of businesses are going to want to lease under these types of units?

Where is the parking for these businesses?

Is this going to bring more crime into midtown?

In my opinion, this is a horrible location for a project like this. When LCDC first decided to develop this property, it was originally going to be a few condos for sale with retail underneath. I feel that they should go back to the original plan.
