Sydney Williams, who led Coeur d'Alene High to a state girls basketball championship in February, was named 5A girls Player of the Year as the All-Idaho boys and girls basketball teams were announced Sunday by The Idaho Statesman newspaper of Boise.

Williams, a 6-foot-1 senior forward who has signed to play at the University of San Diego, averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 steals per game for the Vikings. She shot 44.4 percent from 3-point range.

"Dominated the boards. Smart player who understands the game and what needs to be done to win," Mountain View coach Connie Skogrand told the Statesman.

Two others from Coeur d'Alene were also honored - senior forward Brittany Tackett was named to the first team, and senior guard Madison Sumner was named to the second team.

Tackett, who has signed with Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, averaged 1.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3 steals and 1.2 assists per game.

"Best athletic player in the state," Coeur d'Alene coach Dale Poffenroth said.

Two Lake City Timberwolves were named to the 5A boys second team - senior forward/post Kyle Guice and senior forward JJ Winger.

Three Timberlake Tigers were named to the 3A girls team - freshman Keelie Lawler was named to the first team, and freshman guard Allison Kirby and senior post Jessica Norlander were named to the second team.

Lawler, a 5-8 guard, totaled 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the title game for the state runner-up Tigers.

"Will light you up from the perimeter, or get to the foul line," Priest River coach Gary Stewart said.
