• Dog declared vicious after attacking girl

CHUBBUCK - A pit bull-terrier mix named Angel has been declared a vicious dog in eastern Idaho after attacking a 3-year-old girl.

Chubbuck Police Patrol Lt. Bill Guiberson says the girl received bite wounds to her leg and bites to her face deep enough to cause damage to her gums in the March 16 attack.

Guiberson tells KIFI-TV that the dog owner has a number of options.

Those include appealing the decision or having the dog euthanized.

The owner can also keep the dog in the city but will have to get $500,000 in liability insurance, build an enclosed kennel, put up signs warning of a vicious dog, and tattoo his Social Security number on the dog's lip, ear and thigh.

With the sheriff's approval, the dog could be moved outside the city.

• First egg appears in peregrine falcon nest

BOISE - The annual peregrine falcon nest watch has started early in Boise this year with the laying of the first egg.

Officials with The Peregrine Fund say the egg appeared Wednesday in the nest box on a ledge of the 14th floor of One Capital Center in downtown Boise.

That's the earliest the female has laid an egg since a webcam started monitoring the nest in 2009.

The webcam gives peregrine fans a bird's-eye view with streaming video of the growing chicks and comings and goings of the adults.

Official say the female will lay an egg about every other day until she has produced a clutch of three to five eggs.

She and her mate prey on pigeons, mourning doves, starlings and other birds found in the city.
