Victoria starts fast, whip Chiefs

SPOKANE - The Victoria Royals used a four-goal first period on their way to a 6-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Game 3 of the best-of-seven game Western Conference playoff series in front of 3,412 on Wednesday night at Spokane Arena.

Victoria now leads the best-of-seven series, 3-0. The Royals got two goals from Austin Carroll in the first period, outshooting Spokane 11-3.

The Chiefs got on the scoreboard on Liam Stewart's second goal of the playoffs. He scored at 10:04 on the second period. Mitch Holmberg picked up his first point of the playoffs on the Stewart goal, as Spokane trailed, 4-1.

Logan Nelson scored 29 seconds after Stewart's goal, to give Victoria a 5-1 lead after the second period.

The Royals scored their third power-play goal of the game in the third period, for the final goal of the game.

Victoria finished 3 for 6 on the power play. The Chiefs were 0 for 2 on the power play.

Game 4 is tonight at 7:05 at the Spokane Arena.
