Skills USA winners announced

Twenty-five high-school students participated in the regional Skills USA welding competition hosted Friday, March 14, by North Idaho College.

Welding instructors, students and former students acted as judges in the event. Winners will go on to the statewide Skills USA competition.

Kootenai Technical Education Campus, Lakeland High School, and Mullan Junior-Senior High School all participated. Cd'A Metals and A-L Compressed Gases donated prizes for the top winners, who competed in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, and Oxygen/Fuel Cutting.

Britt Dickens of Lakeland High School was the overall winner. Other top winners include:

* Lakeland High School: Brett Howell, Britt Dickens, Clayton Marshall, Kenny Cooper.

* Kootenai Technical Education Campus:

Brice Volking, Alex Jones, Casey Madsen, Nate Muncoff, Logan Hilding, Michael Cafferty.
