RATHDRUM - Lake City scored three runs on six walks in the top of the first inning on Wednesday at Groton Field, as the Timberwolves beat the Hawks, 5-3, in a nonleague game.

Lake City scored all three of its runs in the first on walks with the bases loaded.

"The walks helped us," Timberwolves coach Travis Georgius said. "Our pitchers came out strong. It was Jordan's first outing of the season, so it was good."

In the second inning, Timberwolves Jarred Hall and Reilly Cherry each had an RBI single. Hall went 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Carter Chaffin went 2 for 4 in the No. 9 spot in the batting order.

Jordan Ross lasted four innings for Lake City (2-4). He allowed three runs on four hits, struck out one and walked three. Parker Gabrielson came on in the fifth inning and he threw three perfect innings.

"I was impressed with Lake City's pitchers," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. "Both of their pitchers had good control and kept us off balance with their off-speed pitches."

Killian Estes took the loss in less than an inning's worth of work for the Hawks (2-3). Logan Bruner hit two doubles and went 2 for 2.

The Timberwolves play Asotin on Monday at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston.

Joey Pfennigs and Glenn Chamberlain combined to strike out five Tigers in the shutout.

"(Timberlake pitcher) Hunter Tonkin did a good job mixing speeds and throwing strikes," Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. "We swung the bats well, threw strikes and made plays. Overall, it was a really well-played game by both sides."

SPOKANE - Post Falls No. 2 girls singles player Myriea Hernandez won in three sets despite playing with a pulled muscle in her torso, as the Trojans swept the girls singles and boys doubles matchups on their way to victory.

Hernandez hung tough by beating East Valley's Macy Paschall, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.

"She was dealing with an injury throughout the match," Post Falls coach Kirk Hartzell said. "It appeared to be painful, because she was in tears on the court. But she got her composure, got back in the match and she gutted it out."

Lincoln Hill took command of his No. 1 boys singles match, sweeping Cameron Lee, 6-0, 6-0.

"It's our second match and our kids played much different," Hartzell said. "We played much more relaxed. We have 10 new varsity kids out of 18 players overall."
