Grant Chase Corey, 85

Grant Chase Corey, 85, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away from natural causes on March 22, 2014, at Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene.

He was born in Baker, Mont., on June 15, 1928, the son of Grant G. and Wilma Corey. Grant attended high school in Rathdrum, Idaho, where he met, and later married, Helen Marie McNurlin, of Spirit Lake, Idaho, on January 5, 1949. They were married for 65 years.

Grant enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served during World War II. Pursuing his private pilot’s license after the war, Grant, Helen and their friends enjoyed flying to many destinations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Grant owned and operated Corey Construction, Inc., and worked as a general contractor with his son in Coeur d’Alene for years, building many residential homes and businesses across North Idaho. Retiring in 1979, Grant and Helen made a second home in Yuma, Ariz., where they spent their winters for 35 years.

Grant is survived by his wife, Helen Corey; brother, Chuck Corey; children: John and Linda (Corey) Duran, and Terry and Gay Corey; grandchildren: Kristopher Corey, Alysha Duran, Gaite and Bridget (Corey) Kennedy, Joe Duran, John Duran and Chris Duran; and great-grandchildren Aliya Moore, Aiden Kennedy, Dallas Kennedy and Tyler Duran.

A Celebration of Life will be held between 2-6 p.m., Saturday, April 5, at the White House, 805 Sherman Ave. E., in Coeur d’Alene.
