Coeur d'Alene Sting under-10 boys Barca: The Sting beat Three Rivers Soccer-Moore 7-0 on March 15.

Joseph Sarkins had two goals and three assists for the Sting. Noah Janzen scored two goals, Sean Dremann and Colten Stinson each scored one goal, Walker Jump had two assists, Kohrt Weber one. Cole Jaworski, Colten Stinson, Walker Jump and Tyler Gasper teamed for the shutout in goal.

Sting U12 girls Whitecaps: The Sting tied the Issaquah Gunners 1-1 on Saturday. The Sting's lone goal came from Megan Corette in the second half. Lily Foster and Emma Ramage were in goal for the Sting.

Sting U8 boys: The Sting beat the Spokane Shadow-Pennestri 4-1 at Hayden Meadows Soccer Complex on Saturday. Connor Jump, Noah Waddell, Ronan Sternberg and Treffen McCord each scored one goal for the Sting, and Zachary Anderson, Brayden Ristic, Gavin Samayoa and Roman Festner each had one assist. Treffen McCord, Ronan Sternberg, Zachary Anderson, Gavin Samayoa and Connor Jump combined in goal for the win.

Sting U12 boys Valencia: The Sting tied Xifa 2020 2-2 on March 19. Carter Gordon and Ty Shaw each scored once for the Sting, and Cameron Dance had an assist.

On March 22, the Sting lost 2-1 to the Northwest United Youngman. Cameron Dance scored for the Sting, assisted by Jacob Janzen. On March 23 the Sting Valencia lost 5-1 to the Tacoma United San Martin. Diego McClure scored for the Sting, assisted by Ty Shaw.

Academy Idaho U11 boys: The Academy beat FC Spokane Black 4-2 on Saturday. Braden Ferreira, Ethan Lawson, Alex Moate and Devin Claflin (penalty kick) scored for the Academy, and Devin Claflin, Ethan Lawson and Braden Ferreira each had assists.

On Sunday the Academy beat the FC Spokane Storm 5-0. Alex Moate and Braden Ferreira each scored twice, Ethan Lawson once. Devin Claflin had two assists, Cody Carvajal and AJ Curson one each.

Academy U10 boys: The Academy beat the Spokane Pumas Black 6-4. Braden Ferreira scored four goals, and Mason Hancock and Devyn Ivankovich added one each.

Academy U14 boys: The Academy placed second in the Stevensville (Mont.) Classic. The Academy beat the Missoula Strikers 5-0, Glacier 10-0 and Great Falls 10-0 to reach the title game, where they fell to the Missoula Strikers.

Sting U17 girls Hogan: The Sting participated in the Players College Showcase in Las Vegas.

The Sting lost 2-1 to Scottsdale (Ariz.) Soccer 97G Blackhawks Burke. Meg Lowery scored on a penalty kick for the Sting, and Tiegan Horton had four saves.

The Sting lost 2-0 to Boca United 96/97F Gold of Florida. Horton had 10 saves. The Sting then lost 2-0 to Marin FC 97 (northern California). Horton had 10 savs. The Sting fell 1-0 to Real Colorado Olympico 96/97. Horton had five saves.

ARENA FOOTBALL

Outlaws win: The sixth-grade North Idaho Outlaws defeated the North Sound Stealth (Seattle area) in their season opener 44-24 at the Spokane Shock Training Facility on Sunday. The Outlaws consist of players that will attend Lake City High School and Timberlake High School.

The Outlaw defense scored twice in the game on fumble recoveries by Jeremy McLemore. The defense was also led by Connor Dremann and Max Peed with 10 tackles each, Logan Jeanselme with 7 tackles and McLemore and Tommy Madill with 5 tackles each. Every player on the Outlaw roster that played on defense (18 total) recorded at least 1 tackle.

On offense, Derek Pearse ended the game 13 of 17 passing for 180 yards and 2 TDs and Madill led the receivers with 11 catches for 174 yards and 2 TDs. Jeanselme added 2 catches for 6 yards, including one PAT score. Rushers were led by Brayden Herbert's 58 yards and 2 TDs, Madill with 30 yards, Joey Follini with 21 yards and a PAT score and Pearse with a 4-yard TD run.

The Outlaws will return to action on April 12 when they scrimmage the North Idaho Thunder during halftime of the Spokane Shock game at the Spokane Arena. They will open league play in Spokane on April 19.

Inaugural Rugby Idaho match for the Highlanders: The North Idaho Highlanders traveled to Riggins last Saturday to meet the Boise-based Mutineers Rugby Club in the Highlanders' first contest against an Idaho Youth Rugby Club. The Mutineers have had a club team for seven years.

Fly Half Pierce Johnson of the Highlanders found a gap at pace to sprint to his third try of the season in the that fashion. Johnson went on the hit the conversion to give the Highlanders a 7-0 lead. The Mutineers eventually went on to win 36-7.

The Highlanders will host their first home game April 19 and they are still looking for interested players from any of the area high schools - call head coach Bruce Murrin at 964-3833 if interested. The Highlanders are made up of players ages 14-18 from Lakeland, Post Falls, and Lake City high schools.

SWIMMING

Nichols, Gonzales lead CAST at Western Sectionals: The Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team (CAST) Crocs, swimming in the last major short-course swim meet of the year, took eight swimmers to Federal Way, Wash., to swim against the best age group swimmers in eight western states this past weekend.

Sarah Nichols and Hannah Gonzales led the way for CAST, placing in the top eight in three individual events against the fastest swimmers in the western region of the United States.

Sarah Nichols (13) led the charge with two first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Sarah's 200 breaststroke beat all other swimmers by four body lengths while she swam to a finish in 2:21.03. Sarah then dropped half a second in her 100 breast and swam to an astonishing time of 1:04.91. This time not only broke the team record, it broke the all-time 13-14 year old record in this event for the region. Sarah also swam to a personal best in the 200 individual medley, placing seventh overall in finals with a 2:14.81.

Hannah Gonzales (16) also placed in the top eight in three individual events competing in the 15-18 year old bracket. Hannah broke through the 25-second barrier in the 50 free, swimming in prelims to a 24.91. Later that night she swam slightly slower and finished in seventh place with a 25.20. Hannah finished second overall in the 100 freestyle in 53.67. Late on Sunday, Hannah finished sixth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.57.

Several other CAST swimmers made it back to finals. Suzanne de Tar swam to a best time in her 100 freestyle, finishing sixth overall with a time of 54.69, giving CAST two top-eight finishers in this event. Micah Hudlet (14) swam to a time of 1:09.26 in the 100 breaststroke, finishing eighth. Jon Archer (13) swam to an eighth-place finish in the100 back with a time of 59.24. Cole Curtis (13) finished eighth in finals in a pair of events, swimming a 2:10.74 in the 200 fly and a 2:19.74 in the 200 breast. Chang He (14) swam to best times in all his qualifying events and swam to a sixth-place finish in the 100 breast in a time of 1:01.83. Chang did this despite having severely sprained his wrist in training a few weeks before. Caleb Markowski, the youngest CAST representative at 11, managed to a swim to best times in all his events and placed sixth in the 100 fly with a time of 1:06.39.
