EMMETT (AP) - A 59-year-old central Idaho man has been sentenced to 44 years in prison for killing a southwest Idaho man.

KTVB-TV reports in a story on Tuesday that Douglas Anderson of Salmon received the sentence in 3rd District Court. He must serve 15 years before he's eligible for parole.

He pleaded guilty in January to second-degree murder and grand theft in the death of 76-year-old Darole Carpenter of Emmett.

He received 30 years for the murder charge and 14 for grand theft. The sentences are running concurrently.

Prosecutors say Anderson defrauded Carpenter of $30,000 and then beat and stabbed him to death in July to cover up the crime.

Prosecutors also say Anderson stole $256,000 from another victim. Anderson has been ordered to pay restitution.
