Fred Meyer helps 'make a wish' for North Idaho child

| March 26, 2014 9:00 PM

Fred Meyer Jewelers in Coeur d'Alene recently partnered with Make-A-Wish Idaho to grant a wish to North Idaho wish child Jonah Grieser.

Jonah, 11, has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He will be on chemotherapy treatment for the next three years.

"Jonah's wish is very selfless," Melanie Lambrecht, North Idaho Regional Manager of Make-A-Wish Idaho, wrote in a press release.

The boy's wish was to go somewhere to swim, snorkel and be by the ocean with his whole family: mom, Hannah; dad, Jayson; and his four younger brothers, Jude, Paul, Aseph and Liam. His grandparents were included also.

Fred Meyer Jewelers donated $6,000 to help fund Jonah's wish, and held a "wish party" last week in his honor.

"Jonah's smile as he saw the tropically decorated store and his tropical-themed cake is unforgettable," Lambrecht wrote.

"Jonah has missed an entire year of school and childhood fun, but his spirit and courage is simply heartwarming."

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish Idaho serves children throughout the state, and grants 90 wishes each year with the help of generous donors and more than 200 volunteers.
