COEUR d'ALENE - Police are investigating a shooting that killed two people Monday night at a residence in Coeur d'Alene.

One juvenile suspect was taken into custody at the scene at 1311 N. First St.

The identities of the suspect and the two people killed were not released by police by press time. Sgt. Christie Wood confirmed the two fatalities and said next of kin had not yet been notified.

A woman who lives at St. Vincent de Paul's Women's Emergency Shelter, next door to the home where the shooting occurred, said she heard a single gunshot at approximately 7:40 p.m.

"When you hear that sort of thing, you don't really think it could be a gunshot in this neighborhood," said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous because she lives at the shelter. "We heard another one at around 8:05 but I just didn't think it was actually a gunshot."

The woman said she did not hear any fighting or yelling prior to the first gunshot and that the neighbors are "very quiet people."

"They're very isolated," the woman said. "I couldn't even tell you what the kids look like."

Kootenai County tax records show the home at 1311 N. First Street is owned by St. Vincent de Paul.
