Rogers makes a difference for community's most vulnerable

| March 23, 2014 9:00 PM

Joy Rogers, E-Services Banking Manager at Mountain West Bank, has been serving with United Way for 10 years. Rogers co-chairs United Way's Income/Basic Needs Impact Council and is responsible for setting goals to attain resources for programming, and to develop strategies and initiatives to reach those goals.

Through her leadership, and that of her co-chair, April Fortier (another Mountain West Bank employee), she enhances collaboration among United Way's community partner organizations. Together, they are a strong team, guiding their council members in making funding decisions and monitoring their progress toward the expected community results.

Rogers feels United Way sees the big picture. "I found that United Way has something really special. They raise the money for the Community Care Fund which serves many organizations and provides a financial partnership with local agencies to target root causes and find solutions to community needs. Now who wouldn't want to be part of that?" she said.

The commitment is only about six hours per month, but means a lot to her personally. When asked why she decided to volunteer in this role for United Way, Rogers said, "United Way's Partner Agencies are making a difference in our communities. I, in fact, have utilized services from these organizations. I know how much it helped me and my family, and I am so grateful that I had access to the resources we needed. I was determined when I was able; I would give back and support our local community organizations. To put it simply, I CARE that our local nonprofits continue to serve the most vulnerable people in our community and that United Way continues to be that vital resource for them. This work has inspired me to get involved in other areas of my community and I now serve as co-chair of the board for Hayden Senior Center and volunteer with the Hayden Lake Marathon."

"How thrilling it was when Joy Rogers accepted the nomination to co-chair the Gem Community Citizens Project Group which oversees the Hayden Senior Center," Jason Ball, past chair of the organization, said. "I am privileged to work with Joy on the steering committee for the Hayden Lake Marathon, as well. True to form, Joy made sure everything went smoothly for the registration process and she communicated with each and every race participant as the race became a reality. Every time there's a need, Joy steps forward with a smile that lights up the room, and she gives of her time and talents to make our community better. She helps youth and seniors alike in her commitment and devotion to good causes."

Mountain West Bank has continued to be a strong community partner supporting United Way, through employee and corporate giving, as well as encouraging volunteerism and corporate engagement at United Way special events.

"I am very proud to be part of United Way and to work for a company that instills community involvement among its employees," Rogers said. "We believe as a bank we can make a difference! Through our partnership with United Way we touch so many people in need. United way creates a partnership with its donors in a way that no other organization can."

Rogers has worked in banking for more than 25 years. She is married to a wonderful husband, Garth, and has two grown sons attending college.
