Rathdrum Power LLC helps search and rescue

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Volunteer Search and Rescue Unit received a lift Wednesday, in the form of a $500 donation from Rathdrum Power LLC. The volunteer unit has 50 members that perform various functions such a man trackers, K-9 teams and support teams.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, the search and rescue unit receives a small budget from the county, which is "mostly" used for maintenance on the search and rescue building. As such, the unit is supported by donations and fundraisers put on throughout the year.

"This money received from the state can be given to the volunteers to cover expenses such as fuel and various types of personal equipment volunteers may use while being deployed," Gary Shults, community service officer, said in the release. "The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office would like to thank Rathdrum Power LLC for their donation."
