COEUR d'ALENE - Help is here for North Idaho's at-risk community.

In fact, that's what HARC stands for: Helping the At Risk Community with faith and character.

HARC's inaugural board meeting took place Monday at the Iron Horse Grill, featuring several speakers.

State Rep. Luke Malek called from Boise to update his fellow board members on economic development for North Idaho. Steve Griffitts and Jessica Bauman spoke on the current job market, while Ron Nilson talked about what the North Idaho Manufacturing Consortium is looking for in new hires.

The board also discussed what the curriculum should be for upcoming classes. The meeting wrapped up by discussing what the Community Project should be for this summer. This project is a way that HARC alumni, partnering with KTEC and Habitat for Humanity, can give back to the community.

HARC engages with local individuals with disabilities, offering vocational training and job placement while including character and faith building, life skills and job readiness tools. Its mission is to turn what is considered a burden on our community into a vibrant asset. HARC partners with KTEC and NITRO to train and place all the graduating students. The one-year program is designed to make the students a valued employee, a better husband or wife and a good parent.
