CHILD PORN: An argument goes awry

| March 21, 2014 9:00 PM

Sandy Lewis (Letters, March 19) is absolutely right: “Child porn harms all children, especially the victims used in the movies.”

Unfortunately, she then lurches out of control, celebrating the right to abort children. Does she think that doesn’t harm children? It harms them to death! Then she lists all the potential woes into which a small percentage of children might be born. Regrettable as that may be, it still beats the heck out of being killed and denied even the chance to escape those woes. She finishes that paragraph with “Others are murdered.” Yeah. Like abortion. “There are many ways to help children all over the world,” Sandy continues, and specifies adoption. Yeah. Instead of abortion.

Sandy is clearly conflicted. She feels for victimized children, but when it gets personal — when it comes down to her personal convenience — well, then, “Abortion is the right of a woman to control her own body.” And suddenly the child means nothing — the baby’s body means nothing — the child who might someday walk beside her, hold her hand and call her “mommy,” means nothing.
