Deanna Watkins' fifth-grade class at Twin Lakes Elementary recently won the fifth annual Idaho Math Cup.

Her students completed 1,651 math lessons, consisting of more than 24,000 Web-based Think Through Math problems. They spent more than 192 hours solving the math problems.

It was the second year in a row that Watkins' class won the state contest, which drew 17,566 students from 1,027 classrooms.

"I am so proud of the students at Twin Lakes Elementary and the thousands of students across Idaho who worked hard to solve complex math problems while at school and at home over the past month," said Idaho Schools Superintendent Tom Luna. "Think Through Math is a great way for Idaho students to have fun with mathematics at school and to extend the school day so they can continue to improve their math skills while at home."

Lynda Ehrsam's class at Ramsey Elementary won the Holiday Hero's Award, which is given for extraordinary work during the Thanksgiving break.

Ehrsam's class includes: Jordyn Bauerle, Ben Bonus, Austin Cole, Mason Cummings, Nate Durocher, Caleb Emory, Connor Glasgow, Landen Hughes, Gavin Izzard, Darby Lindholdt-Anderson, Kristin Luna, Sean Mayo, Daniel McGuire, Dylon Moore, Grant O'Brien, Kayla Ohse, Jeff Parsons, James Phillips, George Pierowski, Owen Smith, Timmy Stubbs, Alexi Wilson, Ty Winter and Cameron Zaragoza.
