Lozier throws near shutout, leads Trojans to first victory

SPOKANE - Dalton Lozier carried a shutout into the bottom of the sixth inning before rain set in and he allowed two runs in the sixth inning Wednesday, leading the Post Falls Trojans past the North Central Indians 5-2 in a nonleague game..

The game was shortened to six innings.

Lozier only allowed four hits and two runs, striking out five Central batters and allowing two walks for Post Falls (1-1).

"He pitched really well," Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. "In the last inning, it started pouring down rain. Some bad weather started coming in, but he started battling back, I was impressed. He just finished the job. He threw about 65 to 70 percent strikes."

Nate Gomer and Jacob Koski each went 2 for 3. Gomer hit a triple and Koski had a double against the Indians (1-1).

Post Falls scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Trevor Hammel had an RBI single to score Koski. Ryan Hunt hit a triple that hit off of the wall that scored Gomer.

Post Falls plays today at Central Valley.

COEUR d'ALENE - Michael Hicks went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored as the Vikings beat the Pirates in a nonleague game at Ted Page Field.

Coeur d'Alene, which trailed 7-3 after the first inning, got three innings of scoreless relief from Graham Thompson and Colby Kennedy in the win.

Colton Gray drove in three runs, Gibson Green and Kolby DeHaas had two RBIs and Nick Nyquist scored three runs for Coeur d'Alene (3-0), which plays at Kennewick on Saturday.

SPOKANE - JJ Winger and Carter Chaffin each had one hit, but the Timberwolves made four errors in a nonleague loss to the Highlanders.

Pitcher Jordan Ross allowed four runs, three earned, along with three hits for the Timberwolves (0-2). He struck out none and walked four.

Shadle Park scored two runs in the first inning, with three hits.

"We had some errors and mental mistakes on defense," Lake City coach Travis Georgius said. "We had some guys in scoring position who got picked off. In the first inning, they bunted some guys over and our mistakes allowed the inning to continue."

Lake City plays a doubleheader Monday at Moscow.

earn medalist honors

PINEHURST - Kellogg seniors Jesse Lambert and Jessi Gibbons earned medalist honors in a nonleague match between the Wildcats and Lumberjacks at Pinehurst Golf Course.

Lambert shot a 1-over 37 to pace the Kellogg boys. Gibbons had a 10-over 47 to win girls medalist.

David Burnett led St. Maries with a 43.

St. Maries faces Wallace next Thursday at Shoshone Golf Course in Big Creek.

SPOKANE - C.C. Cates and Sydney Jackson had wins in singles play for the Lake City girls in a match against Mount Spokane.

"It was really kind of neat to have Sydney get a win in her first varsity match," Lake City girls coach Roger Keilig said. "I thought it was neat to have a couple of wins by our underclassmen."

The boys match at Lake City was postponed due to rain.

Lake City travels to University High in Spokane on Tuesday.
