POST FALLS - A crash involving an alleged drunk driver in Post Falls early Saturday caused property and vehicle damage.

Ronald Schaffer, Coeur d'Alene, was arrested for driving under the influence and failure to notify police of a collision.

According to the police report, a 2010 Kia Sedona had been driven through about 150 feet of barbed wire fence and came to a stop after it collided with a street sign near Corbin Road and Cami Street.

The vehicle had extensive front-end damage and the front bumper was detached. A witness told police he saw Schaffer beating on the front windshield with a beer bottle after the crash.

Another crash involving a damaged vinyl fence at north Chase Road and Chicory Street was reported about the same time. Pieces of a maroon bumper, the color of the Kia, was recovered. During questioning, Schaffer indicated to police that there had been multiple crashes.

Schaffer was treated and released from Kootenai Health.

A male who was with Schaffer also appeared to be intoxicated according to police, and was also injured, but declined medical treatment. He was driven home by an acquaintance who hadn't been with the two.

The male apparently walked away from the crashed vehicle and a resident in the vicinity reported him as a prowler at their front door.
