Coeur Group completes 10th locker

COEUR d'ALENE - Thanks to the Coeur Group's school locker program, there's a special storage spot at Canfield Middle School.

Canfield received several floor-to-ceiling cabinets and shelving that will hold items of necessity for underprivileged students.

Coeur Group members, who are businessmen younger than 40, have been creating similar "lockers" for local schools for several years, pulling together community resources, raising funds and donating their own time and sweat to build the storage areas.

The Canfield project marks the group's 10th "locker."

"Students are encouraged to visit the locker discreetly, between classes and take what they need," said Coeur Group President J.R. Norvell, in a press release.

The group has plans for more lockers this year.

The Canfield project is being completed with help from Sara Colbert of Tom Addis Lake City Ford. Colbert helped select Canfield for this locker.

Coeur Group member Matt Anderson of Tapley Cabinets led the building of the cabinets, which Coeur Group members completed March 15 at Anderson's shop. Another group of members then installed the cabinets Sunday.

"It's amazing to think of all of the generosity involved in putting one of these together," said Coeur Group member Ben Miller.

The Coeur Group donated $2,000 to the Canfield PTA to buy supplies for the locker. Tom Addis Lake City Ford added another $250.
