James Edward Duval Jr.

James Edward Duval, Jr., was born June 14, 1933, in Rupert, ID. He was the first child of parents James Edward Duval and Lucy Velate Davis Duval, when he joined his family at the homestead near Cherry Creek, Nev. When Jim reached school age, his parents moved into Cherry Creek where Jim completed his grade school education. At the age of 12, Jim went to work with his dad for Jack Boundy and Ken Cleghorn at the Cherry Creek mill. When Jim was 16, he began hunting and trapping with Wylie Carrol, a government trapper from Ely, Nev. Jim attended White Pine County High School in Ely, graduating in June of 1951.

In January 1951, Jim joined the U.S. Navy with friend, Paul Boundy. He served as a Marine medic, was decorated with several medals, and received an honorable discharge in 1955. Returning to Nevada, Jim worked for Kennecott Copper Mines in Ruth, driving ukelets (big mine haul trucks). On November 11, 1957, Jim married Cora Ann Ferguson, and they had two children: Laurie Ann Duval and David Blaine Duval. Jim later moved to Reno, Nev., where he put himself through college and became an accountant for Nevada Pacific Power for 19 years. Jim married Patty Hastings on February 14, 1969, in Reno, Nev.

On September 21, 1977, in Elko, Nev., Jim married his eternal companion, Patricia Anne Johnson, of McGill, Nev. They lived in Hayden, ID since June 1978.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucy Duval; brother, Jack B. Campbell, of Nevada; sisters: Elva Marie Campbell (Pierson), of Utah, and Shirley Duval Edwards Ellers, of Idaho; son, David B. Duval, of Oregon; daughter, Terry Halsell, of Idaho; father-in-law, Andrew Johnson, of Nevada; and granddaughter, Jennifer Day, of Nevada.

Jim leaves behind his wife, Patricia Johnson Duval; two sisters: Lurley M. Duval and Lois Duval Clegg, both of Idaho; daughters: Laurie Duval (Steve) Sudweeks, of Nevada, Kerri Bourgeois (Kirk) Hogeboom, of Nevada, and Cindee Bourgeois (Clifford) Hicks of Idaho; son, Davis Bourgeois of Idaho; mother-in-law, Donna (Jensen) Johnson of Nevada; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren, with two more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Honeysuckle building, in Hayden, ID. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d'Alene has been entrusted to handle final arrangements. Please visit Jim's online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
