Library 'Money Camp' for Tweens, Teens

| March 15, 2014 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Want to grow up to be a millionaire? Teens grades six through eight, ages 11 to 14, are invited to attend the Spokane Teachers Credit Union's "My Life, My Money Camp," hosted March 27 by the Coeur d'Alene Public Library.

This free program will be from 9 a.m. to noon in the library Community Room.

March 27 is a "Teacher Work Day" in the Coeur d'Alene School District for grades Pre-K through eight, and teens are invited to spend the morning at Money Camp at the library, learning a little more about smart money practices.

They'll learn to make the most of their money, how to avoid getting ripped off, and what it takes to become a millionaire before they turn 30. The program uses unique and fun activities and games to show tweens the importance of saving and the ways they can start making investments and practicing smart money skills from an early age.

Parents or guardians can pre-register their tweens by calling 855-753-0317 or sending an email to mymoney@stcu.org.

The library's teen calendar for March also includes a free screening of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 7, in the Gozzer Room. Movie snacks will be provided, and a copy of the book and DVD will be raffled off as door prizes. This program will extend beyond normal library hours, so if you plan on attending, please be at the event before the library doors close at 6 p.m..

Other March young adult programs will include:

* Teens Craft: Wrapped Earbuds, 4 p.m., March 6, Gozzer Room.
