Savior of the World

| March 14, 2014 9:00 PM

"Savior of the World," a musical depiction of the events surrounding the birth and death of Jesus Christ as told in the King James Version of the Bible, will be performed April 13, Palm Sunday, at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene.

The free concert will feature an orchestra and choir comprising more than 100 local singers and musicians.

Ryan Crandall, the conductor and musical director, has been involved in the North Idaho music community for many years. Crandall earned a bachelor of arts in music before graduating from law school at the University of Idaho. He is currently an attorney at Owens & Crandall in Hayden and regularly performs on the bass with the NIC Jazz Ensemble and other groups. Also joining the performance as concertmaster is Gerard Mathes, a Coeur d'Alene musician and longtime educator.

The concert, hosted by local members of the LDS Church, is offered as a nondenominational event.

"We really wanted to make this performance a gift to the community," Crandall said. "The story of Christ's resurrection is one that resonates with and unites members of all Christian faiths..."

There will be no proselyting or literature handed out during the production, Crandall said.

The performance will also feature several selections from The Testament of Paul, an Easter Cantata by composer David Zabriskie, whose works are often performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. In addition, portions of the musical performance will be accompanied by narration and videos depicting events from Jesus' life.

To make reservations, email EasterCantataCDA@gmail.com and specify the number of guests and a performance time of either 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 13. Organizers believe the cantata will be of interest to those ages 8 and older and will last one hour.

Seating is open. A confirmation and more information about the program will be emailed to those who make reservations.
