BONNERS FERRY - Two people were injured when a pipe bomb exploded at the front door of a home early Sunday morning.

Allen J. Stafford, also known as Allen Avery, is accused of planting the device. He is charged with unlawful use of an explosive device, a felony. He's also charged with misdemeanor vandalism.

Stafford, 19, is being held at the Boundary County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail, according to the Idaho Supreme Court Data Repository.

Bonners Ferry Police received a report of an explosion in the 7300 block of Apache Street at 1:18 a.m., according to a news release issued by Boundary County officials.

The two injured males were taken to Boundary Community Hospital, where they were treated and released, county officials said. The two males opened the door, saw the pipe bomb and closed the door just as the device detonated.

An investigation by Bonners Ferry Police, Idaho State Police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led them to Stafford, according to Bonners Ferry Police Chief Bob Boone.

Boone told Spokane television station KREM that Stafford had a vendetta against the two men because he believed they burglarized his vehicle.

A preliminary hearing in the case is pending. If Boone is bound over to stand trial and ultimately convicted of the felony offense, he faces up to life in prison and a $25,000 fine.
