• Wasden joins telephone town hall on fraud

Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden will speak by phone today to thousands of AARP Idaho members and discuss fraud, identity theft and how to avoid becoming the next victim of a costly scam.

The Attorney General's Office is the leader in Idaho for enforcing the state's consumer protection laws and helping educate citizens on avoiding fraud. Wasden will be joined by Brett DeLange, chief of the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division, and leaders from AARP Idaho, which has more than 178,000 members statewide.

"One of the missions of my office is help Idahoans understand the various things they can do to protect themselves," Wasden said. "The best strategy for fighting fraud includes the important element that consumers must educate themselves. While my office can help consumers after they have been cheated, informed consumers are the best line of defense."

The statewide town hall is scheduled to begin 5:30 p.m. Pacific time on March 11. The toll free call number is 1-877-229-8493, followed by the PIN: 17642.

• Woman returns home, interrupts burglary

COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene woman returned to her home on Seltice Way early Friday morning and found it in the process of being burglarized.

According to a Coeur d'Alene Police Department incident report, the woman told officers that she parked in front of her garage and when she entered the house she could hear someone else moving around inside.

The woman, according to the report, called out, asking who was in her house before entering the garage. Once inside, she saw two men, one of whom she recognized, opening the garage door.

The two men left in a white pickup, hitting the woman's vehicle several times in an effort to escape. According to the report, the two men stole a generator worth approximately $500.
