All about the view

Spring approaching and daylight saving time starting today brings attention to the outdoors, and that brings attention to the new McEuen Park and Tubbs Hill between downtown and the lake. All this, of course, involves the view.

It's amazing how few buildings along Front Street and higher ones on Sherman Avenue take advantage of this. Very few of these great locations house public places such as restaurants and bars with windows and decks to take advantage of these amenities. They could even have second levels with decks and even rooftops looking at this terrific view.

And a few more notes about downtown: The City Council should have a study and limit building heights (especially on the south side and west end of Sherman) so the downtown isn't in the shade. This has really hurt some cities we visited. Another attractive option could be to have Sherman as a walking street during such events as ArtWalk, MusicWalk and the outdoor market. The sidewalk seating for restaurants would really be popular then.
