Edna Faye Smith, 86

| March 7, 2014 10:58 AM

Edna Faye Smith, age 86, of Post Falls, ID passed away February 26, 2014, at Post Falls Life Care.

Faye was born the first child of George and Edna Johnson on April 30, 1927, in Detroit, Mich. She and her family moved west from Detroit in the 1930’s, as did many during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. The family made their home in Sandpoint, ID where she graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1945. Faye attended Kinman Business School in Spokane, Wash., and then went on to work for “Ace” Walden at Idaho First National Bank where she worked until retiring 36 years later.

Faye married Alan K. Smith in 1947, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1997. She and Alan loved trips to Hawaii, visiting the pacific coast, family gatherings, decorating for the holidays and all the grandbabies as they came along. Faye was a camera hound and had boxes upon boxes of family, vacation, and sight seeing photos of wherever she went. She loved reading and had a wonderful library of books she would cheerfully loan to each of us.

Although her beloved Alan passed away unexpectedly and much too soon in 1999, she gallantly faced her future as her family watched and stood by for support, especially her son Dave, who was always there for her.

Faye was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alan Smith; her parents, George and Edna Johnson; and her brother, Bob Johnson. She is survived by her sons, David (Tracie) Smith of Coeur d’Alene, and Michael Smith of Puyallup, Wash., sister, Gerry Venishnick of Post Falls; brothers, Russell Johnson (Arlene) of Pocatello, ID and Ron Johnson (Linda) of Post Falls; six grandsons, two granddaughters; eight great grandchildren, and two great-great granddaughters, all of whom were dear to her and close to her heart.

The family would like to sincerely thank all the caregivers at Life Care Post Falls for their kindness while Faye was in their care. A special thank you to Faye’s dear friend, Gayle McElroy, for all the visits and loving care she shared with Faye. Bless you, Gayle.

We shared many years together and look forward to meeting you again in God’s good time. You are in our hearts Dear One.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 3, at Evergreen Cemetery, 2834 N. Spokane St., Post Falls. Please visit Faye’s memorial and sign her online guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
