Signs point to trouble

| March 4, 2014 8:00 PM

Residents of a Hayden home are probably reconsidering their interior decorating decisions and wishing they had chosen to hang pictures instead of stolen city traffic signs on their bedroom wall.

According to a Kootenai County Sheriff's Office incident report, deputies went to the home for an unrelated investigation and when they began questioning a woman at the home, they noticed multiple traffic signs in the bedroom.

The deputy wrote in the report that he noticed a stop sign hanging on the wall and two "One Way" signs, and a Fourth Street sign resting against a piece of furniture in the room. All of the signs had dents and were worn out, which to the deputy suggested that they had, at some point in time, been in use on a public road.

When questioned by the deputies, none of the residents could confirm how they acquired the signs. However, the woman did tell law enforcement that she had seen the signs in the bedroom and knew they probably shouldn't be in the home, but she had "too much else going on to worry about it."

Upon further examination of the signs the deputies determined that they were all from the Coeur d'Alene City Street Department and requested that city police perform the follow-up investigation.
