Hair-raising incident

| March 4, 2014 8:00 PM

A Citylink bus passenger got too hot for comfort Friday in Hayden. But he didn't have the flu.

He had two passengers behind him lighting his hair on fire.

According to a Kootenai County Sheriff's report, the man told deputies he was traveling southbound on Ramsey on the bus when he suddenly smelled the odor of a "burning material."

The two males sitting directly behind the man quickly exited the bus at the Honeysuckle stop and a witness told deputies that one of them had singed the man's hair.

Both suspects were familiar to the man who had his hair burned and deputies were told that he often sees the two at the Post Falls warming center. The man told deputies he believed the two perpetrators were intoxicated while they traveled on the bus.

Deputies were able to locate the two suspects, one of whom after having his Miranda rights read to him, informed law enforcement that he accidentally singed the man's hair while attempting to cauterize his glove tips. The man was cited by deputies on a misdemeanor battery charge.
