NIC: Athletics not untouchable
NIC is a local community college, and local taxpayers should all remember that Kootenai County taxpayers pay for any activity not covered by tuition income. I, for one, believe a community college should be whatever students are willing to pay for. “Tuition,” nothing more.
NIC should have one goal, a good education at a nominal price. Primarily for local students.
With falling enrollment down 12 percent in 2014, and an estimated 10 percent lower enrollment in 2015, it should strike anyone with a whit of common sense that we are not doing what students want and are willing to pay for.
I believe it’s time to climb off your lofty perches and do what is right for students and the community.
Spending millions for athletics that taxpayers must subsidize is unreasonable and a poor decision.
