ADLER: Not this reader's hero

| June 22, 2014 9:00 PM

Your June 8 editorial was a real humdinger, as some letters have pointed out. Holding your ever present “guest opinion” writer, David Adler, as the pinnacle of constitutional knowledge is quite a stretch. Although it is apparent that you were impressed enough with Mr. Adler’s reliance on “the wisdom of Machiavelli” to announce it to everyone, all it tells me is that you and Mr. Adler have the wrong heroes. “Wisdom” and “Machiavelli” are mutually exclusive.

Since we’re discussing quotes, try this one: “Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days,” (Benjamin Franklin — although often attributed to Mark Twain). Your guest Mr. Adler has been with us for quite some time now. Maybe it is time to bring in a new guest with a different point of view, perhaps one who doesn’t subscribe to the “wisdom of Machiavelli.”
