Lauretta Boland

Boland, Lauretta Carol McHugh, June 2, 1922 – June 11, 2014

Lauretta Carol Boland, 92, passed away on June 11, 2014, at her home in Tustin Ranch, Calif., with her loving and devoted daughter, Sherri, by her side.

Lauretta was born June 2, 1922, in Mullan, Idaho, the only child of Emma Pabst and Michael Bernard McHugh. She was raised in Mullan by her loving aunts, Elizabeth McHugh and Agnes Hall.

Lauretta was proud to be of the Catholic faith, and St. Jude was her beloved saint. She began attending the University of Montana in 1940, pledged membership to the Delta Delta Delta sorority, and graduated in 1944 with a degree in business accounting.

Lauretta moved to Spokane, Wash., in 1945, where she worked for Bonneville Power and the Spokane school district for many years. She married John W. Boland in 1955, and had five beautiful children she later raised on her own.

Lauretta began a career as an audiologist with Beltone in 1970. Always possessing an entrepreneurial spirit, in 1980 she opened her own successful hearing aid business in 1980 - Northwest Professional Hearing on North Division - while raising her five children. Lauretta retired in 1990 in the Rockwood area on the South Hill in her “long desired” dream home.

Lauretta's favorite hobbies were antiquing, garage sales, and wonderful “forgotten finds” at secondhand shops. She had many dear friends at her much loved charities - the Volunteers of America, Goodwill, SCRAPS, and the Spokane Humane Society.

After retiring, Lauretta traveled extensively, and in June 2009 her travels brought her to Orange County, California ? the Tustin Ranch area. Lauretta actively enjoyed her remaining years in the golden sunshine of Southern California, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She was forever energetic, generous and kind, with a smile that lite up the skies!

Lauretta is survived by her five children: Sherri Boland, David Boland, Donnelly Boland, Susie Boland Gonyea, and Doug Boland; four gorgeous grandchildren: Melinda Davison, Karissa Gonyea, Anjalee Gonyea and Derek Jay Boland.

Lauretta Carol Boland was the sweetest, kindest angel that ever walked this earth! She is deeply loved by all who met her, and will be eternally missed.

A celebration of Lauretta Carol’s life will be held at noon, Saturday, June 21, at Saddleback Chapel in Tustin, Calif. Condolences may be sent to the Boland family at 15333 Culver Dr., #340–443 Irvine, Calif., 92604. The designated florist is Saddleback Flowers of Tustin, Calif., (714) 838-6038.
