PRESS: Print alive and well
Thank you to the Coeur d’Alene Press!
In this age of computerized communication, many feel the printed page is obsolete or mundane. I cannot disagree strongly enough!
In my Social Studies classes at North Idaho STEM Charter Academy, I asked Mike Patrick, the editor, if I could obtain a handful of newspapers daily for current events. The Press not only freely donated enough papers for my assignments, but from their kind gift we used the older editions for ongoing projects, from paper maché to structural engineering models.
Furthermore, my kids and I learned that while there is a massive amount of information online, it was actually easier and more fulfilling to just grab an edition of The Press and find the information quickly and reliably. And they learned a valuable lesson — newspapers do not need batteries and are still available when the power or network goes down!
So I wish to convey my appreciation to Mike and The Press for helping me educate my kids on what is happening in their culture and country. And I also want to remind everyone that the printed page still has uses in this digital age!
