Adult chinook harvest ends on portion of Clearwater River

At the end of fishing hours today, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game will implement a closure to the harvest of adult chinook salmon (24 inches or longer) on the Clearwater River between the Orofino Bridge and the South Fork Clearwater.

This closure is being implemented because the harvest quota for adult chinook salmon has been met in this river section.

Harvest quotas in different reaches within the Clearwater drainage were developed using input from the public to help ensure all communities in the watershed have opportunities to harvest salmon.

Starting Friday, only the harvest of adipose-clipped Jacks, salmon less than 24 inches, will be allowed on the Clearwater River downstream from the South Fork Clearwater River.

Anglers may keep up to four adipose clipped jacks per day. Any salmon 24 inches or longer must be immediately released in this river section.
