Vehicle goes into Fernan Lake

| July 30, 2014 9:00 PM

A vehicle driver and passenger escaped serious injuries Tuesday when the pickup truck they were traveling in ended up partially submerged in Fernan Lake.

The single-vehicle collision was reported to local law enforcement by a caller who said a vehicle had driven off Fernan Lake Road and into the lake.

The 2006 Chevrolet was resting on its driver's side in a few feet of water when Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies and Coeur d'Alene Police officers arrived at the scene of the crash just east of Fernan Village.

The driver, Kristopher S. Corey, 39, of Hayden, and a female passenger, identified as Adrian El-Qare, 30, of Coeur d'Alene, were found standing next to the vehicle in the water, the sheriff's office reports.

The driver was not injured, and the passenger was taken to Kootenai Health, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
