COEUR d'ALENE - Tuesday's heat brought Coeur d'Alene to 100 degrees for the first time in nearly five years, but it wasn't a record, said climatologist Cliff Harris.

Tuesday's temperature reached 102 degrees at 3:24 p.m. in Coeur d'Alene, Harris said. The record for July 28 is 106 set in 1939.

The last time Coeur d'Alene reached triple digits was Aug. 20, 2009.

The overall record is 109, set on Aug. 4, 1961.

Since 1985, Coeur d'Alene has averaged just one 100-degree day per year, Harris said.

Today is expected to reach the upper 90s, he said.

"Some areas may hit 100," Harris added.

Temperatures will decrease to the low- to mid-90s toward the weekend with a slight chance - 20 to 30 percent - of isolated thunderstorms.
