POLICE: And now, some good news

| July 27, 2014 9:00 PM

Most people have heard the old saying, “There are two sides to every coin.” In recent events, the press has not been examining the shiniest side of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. However, I would like to bring attention to a positive, wonderful thing they did this past weekend because I feel it is important to highlight both sides.

Lt. Lee Brainard agreed to be present at my friend’s father’s funeral to issue American flags to the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was there to extend condolences to the family as well as lay a patriotic man to rest. This was not his duty. This was not his chore. This probably was not his idea of a fun Saturday. However, he treated the task like he was honored to do so and there are no words to thank a man for an act of kindness like that.

I understand the public is questioning the motives and skills of our local police department due to current events. What I also know is that these men are human. Humans are subject to errors, but humans also have hearts. I want to thank Lt. Brainard and the other men like him for being human and displaying the better side of their department. The side that serves, protects and shows compassion. You are appreciated.
