GUNS: More stats to consider

| July 25, 2014 9:30 PM

Regarding Rich Sonntag and guns on campus, out of 30,000 deaths only 9,000 are homicides. The rest stated to be suicide, only making up 1 percent of deaths. Drugs 2 percent, car wrecks 3 percent, alcohol abuse 9 percent, medical error 17 percent, tobacco 48 percent.

If you have a kid in college they are way more likely to die from drugs alcohol or cigarettes than a gun. Each year 200,000 women fend off a sexual assault with a gun and from 1994 to 2011 private gun ownership has risen 50 percent, but gun-related crime has decreased 73 percent. Hmmmm. How is that?

My suggestion if you want to protect your kids, teach them how to properly handle and own a gun, keep them out of cars and doctors’ offices and don’t let them drink alcohol, do drugs and smoke. Truthaboutguns.com 2013 statistics - you can also look it up on the CDC or FBI websites. Media will have you believe guns are horrible; truth is 90 percent of violent crimes don’t involve a gun at all but fists, hammers, and clubs. Wake up America: this war on gun ownership is ridiculous. Our grandparents used to carry rifles to and from school, shooting squirrels.
