"Dad's Gone Fishing"

Winston H. "Win" Stoody, 78, passed away on July 23, 2014, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Win was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Whittier, Calif., the son of Winston F. Stoody and Virginia Stoody. Win attended Webb High School in Claremont, Calif., and was captain of his high school football team. He earned his Bachelors from Claremont McKenna College, where he served as the Freshman Student Body President. Win obtained his Masters in Counseling from the University of La Verne, and his PhD in Psychology from California Coast University.

After college, Win served as a captain in the Army, then returned home to Whittier to work in the family business, "The Stoody Companyl," at the time, the world's largest exclusive manufacturer of hard-facing alloys and wear-resistant castings. After retiring from The Stoody Company, Win became a real-estate broker and owner of Stoody Homes. He also utilized his PhD to counsel people struggling with chemical dependencies.

Win's favorite times were when he was surrounded by family at their lakeside home, spending time in Kauai, savoring tranquil mornings fishing on the lake or enjoying a good cigar alongside a spirited poker match. He was revered for his humor, quick wit, and his endearing, charming personality. Winston, "You rascal!"

Winston is survived by his wife, Leilani, of 39 years; eight children; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and his sister, Jeneane.

He loved his family dearly. Dad, we love you, and you will be deeply missed!

Viewing will be 3--5 p.m., Sunday, July 27, at the Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. Private services will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.
