ARFEE: Sensible protocol needed

| July 25, 2014 9:30 PM

First of all, anyone who does not know the difference between a pit bull and a black lab should not be allowed to carry a gun or be allowed to use their own judgment as to when to use it.

There are probably thousands of “white vans” in the area, and to go to this extreme is out of line. It would seem that the first “protocol” would be to check to see who owns the van by a VIN search, done on their car computer. Obviously no one was in the van but the dog, so I would think the next “protocol” would be to wait for the owner to return. The next logical “protocol” would be to question the owner as to why he was there, and why his van was parked there. Mind you, this is just my personal common sense in handling the situation. The owner could answer the questions and all is well.

I don’t know if anyone has ever been around a police car that uses a dog as a partner, but they usually have a sign on the car to not come close to the car. Wonder why that is; they are protecting the vehicle they are in, or the officer inside. Most dogs are this way to the owner’s vehicle, my own dog is as well.

By the way she is a golden retriever, not a pit bull; please make a note of that. Maybe some common sense is in order.
