| July 23, 2014 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT - The Bonner County Sheriff's Office is seeking information regarding a hit-and-run collision on Lake Pend Oreille on Thursday.

Sheriff's officials said a 20-foot Chaparral water skiing boat was struck broadside by a personal watercraft near Contest Point at 3:45 p.m. The ski boat was floating in the water while its two occupants lunched in the back seat.

The personal watercraft that hit the powerboat was described as black and green in color. Its operator was described as a summer-tanned male in his early 20s with short dark hair and square sunglasses. That subject was apparently accompanied by another male on a red-and-white personal watercraft, possibly a Honda.

The personal watercraft crashed into the boat amidships with significant force, causing its operator to strike his chest. The operator may have injuries to his chest or wrists.

The two occupants of the vessel were not injured, but there was significant damage to their boat. The personal watercrafts' operators immediately left the Contest Point area headed east.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Gary Johnston at 263-8417, extension 3049. Information can also be emailed to sheriff@bonnerso.org.
