Golf fundraiser set for Genesis Prep, Post Falls High

POST FALLS - The second Tro-J-ag Cup, a golf fundraiser for the Genesis Prep and Post Falls High golf teams, is scheduled for Aug. 23 at Prairie Falls Golf Club, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Format is a two-person scramble. Cost is $75 per person or $140 per team.

Hole sponsors and donated prizes are being sought.

Registration is being accepted at Prairie Falls Golf Club, 3200 N. Spokane St., or at www.genesisprep.org.

Boise, Fresno picked to win divisions in Mountain West

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Boise State and Fresno State were picked to win their Mountain West Conference divisions in a preseason media poll.

Fresno State, which won the inaugural Mountain West championship over Utah State last season, received 15 first-place votes and 174 points in the West.

Boise State, which went 6-2 last season, received 20 first-place votes and 183 total points to lead voting for the Mountain Division.

Defending Mountain Division champion Utah State was picked to finish second behind Boise State, receiving 12 first-place votes and 171 points. Colorado State was third, receiving one first-place vote, followed by Wyoming, New Mexico and Air Force.

San Diego State received 15 first-place votes and was two points behind Fresno State in the West. Nevada was third, then UNLV, San Jose State and Hawaii.

Shock's Sanders, Washington earn AFL awards

CHICAGO - Spokane Shock defensive back Terrance Sanders was named J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week for Week 19 of the Arena Football League season, and Shock wide receiver Mike Washington earned the Cutters Catch of the Week.

Sanders, from Eastern Illinois electrified the Spokane crowd once again with a kickoff return touchdown and a pick-six in the Shock's 55-52 victory over the Tampa Bay Storm on Monday. Sanders finished the game with 2.5 tackles and 86 kickoff return yards to go along with his 10th interception of the season.

Washington, from Hawaii flipped over the wall for a 23-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter of Spokane's victory over Tampa Bay. Washington, who is in the midst of his fourth consecutive season with at least 100 catches and 1,000 yards, has hauled in a touchdown pass in each of the last three games, including a pair of scores on Monday night.
