COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene man was sentenced in U.S. District Court Monday to five years in prison for possession of sexually explicit images of minors.

Wade Thomas Weingart, 39, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge, who ordered Weingart also pay $3,000 to a child identified within his child pornography collection.

Weingart pleaded guilty to the charge on Jan. 30.

According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice, in 2012 a police officer working with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force discovered that a computer in Coeur d'Alene was making child pornography available on the Internet. The officer, according to the release, was able to view several filed that the computer made available and determined they were images of minors being sexually abused by adults.

Using information obtained from an internet service provider, the officer determined that the images were being made available from Weingart's computer.

In January of 2013, federal agents searched Weingart's residence. At that time, Weingart, according to the release, admitted to possessing child pornography. A forensic examiner later found in his possession more than 60 videos of minors being sexually abused.

Weingart will have five years of supervised release after his prison term is completed.
