• Burn ban to begin Friday

All burning of debris will be banned throughout Kootenai County beginning Friday.

The Kootenai County Fire Chiefs Association is placing the ban in response to worsening fire conditions throughout the county.

The ban includes, but is not limited to: burning of yard waste, burn barrels and any and all slash.

Individuals who live in fire districts that use the Idaho Department of Lands burn permit program will no longer be able to obtain permits as of Friday.

"Although recent rains have helped to alleviate the fire danger, this is a short term fix," states the ban announcement. "All fire managers are looking ahead to a warming trend in the immediate future."

Campfires and warming fires are not regulated under this burn ban, but individuals are still expected to take proper precautions.

Local fire departments and the Idaho Department of Lands can answer additional questions.
