| July 23, 2014 9:15 PM

Berta Louise Baker, 85, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away July 21, 2014, at Creekside Assisted Living in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Berta was born May 22, 1929, in San Fernando, Calif., to Robert McKay and Louise Borgeson McKay. As a child, Berta moved to Florida with her family where she attended high school, graduating in 1947. There she met Howard Lee Baker and they were married on July 15, 1947, in Miami, Fla. They had been married 47 years when Howard passed away in 1994.

Berta traveled with Howard, who was in the United States Navy, living in Florida and Texas. She worked as medical office manager in California until she retired in 1993, moving to North Idaho to be close to family.

Berta had many interests. She loved to volunteer at Kootenai Medical Center. She also loved cooking, making wreaths, and arranging flowers. Berta was a big animal lover, and made the best mac and cheese in town. She was also a private pilot, and was active in the Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots, when she lived in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Berta was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents, Robert and Louise; and her daughter, Linda Baker. She is survived by three children: April (Albert) Fitzpatrick, of Prince Edward Island, Canada, Robert (Sue) Baker, of Vacaville, Calif., and Suzi (Ray) Koep, of Post Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Upon Berta’s request, no services will be held. The family suggests that memorials in her honor be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047. Bell Tower Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements, and you may view Berta’s online memorial at www.belltowerfuneralhome.com.
