• Sister giving kidney to older brother

Two Hayden families are making sacrifices to save one of their own.

David Gove, 37, and his younger sister, Shayna Hanson, are both in Seattle this week, at the University of Washington Medical Center for surgery to transplant one of Shayna's kidneys into her older brother, whose organs are failing.

The surgery is scheduled to take place Wednesday, and due to the seriousness of Gove's condition, his recovery time is expected to be lengthy.

Siblings Gove and Hanson are each married with young children.

The travel and accommodations costs, medications and items not covered by health insurance are taking a toll on both families.

An account has been set up to accept donations on behalf of the families. Donations to the Gove Kidney Benefit Fund can be made at any STCU branch.
