Harleys to visit Cd'A

| July 22, 2014 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The Harleys are coming.

At 3 p.m. Thursday, a parade of as many as 1,500 Harley-Davidsons will head east on Interstate 90 into Coeur d'Alene. For three hours, the motorcycles will line Sherman Avenue from Independence Point to Eighth Street.

The event kicks off the inaugural Pacific Northwest Harley Owners Group Rally. While the rally grounds are in Spokane Valley, more than half of the guided rides are in Idaho and the Coeur d'Alene area.

According to a Coeur d'Alene Police Department spokesperson, Thursday's rally will shut down Sherman Avenue beginning at 3 p.m. Participants are expected to arrive downtown at 3:45 p.m.

Surrounding roads will be open, the spokesperson said, but parking will not be allowed on Sherman Avenue for four hours. At least a day prior to the event, signs will be placed on Sherman Avenue giving the rules and regulations for motorists.

Members of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department will be at the event conducting traffic control and the spokesperson said he expects the event to be similar to Car d'Lane.

"We don't anticipate any problems," he said. "It's a family-oriented event."

In a press release, event organizers encouraged the public to come and view the parade of Harleys.

The goal of the four-day event, according to the release, is to "create an atmosphere where friendships are made, lifetime memories are created and fun is had by all."
