Idaho football picked 9th in 11-team Sun Belt

NEW ORLEANS - The Idaho Vandals, returning to the Sun Belt after playing last season as an independent, were picked to finish ninth in the 11-team conference by the league's coaches.

Louisiana Lafayette and Arkansas State, who tied for the Sun Belt title last year, have been picked to finish first and second this year. Lafayette received all 11 first-place votes from the league's coaches.

South Alabama was picked third, five-time league champion Troy fourth, followed by Louisiana Monroe, Texas State, Appalachian State and Georgia Southern. App State and Georgia Southern move up to FBS from the Football Championship Subdivision this year.

Georgia State was picked to finish 10th. New Mexico State, also an independent last year, was picked to finish last. Idaho and New Mexico State last played in the Sun Belt in 2004, before joining the Western Athletic Conference.
