Coeur d'Alene falls, Hayden ousted in state playoffs

On its first chance to win the state title, Coeur d'Alene fell to South Boise 8-2 on Saturday in the second game of the best-of-3 state playoffs at Duck Alley Field in Eagle.

Marcus Manzardo struck out eight for Coeur d'Alene, the District 1 champions.

Coeur d'Alene beat District 2 champion South Boise 12-8 on Friday.

The winner-take-all championship game is scheduled for today at 9 a.m. PDT.

Nampa Valley 4, Hayden 3: After losing 14-0 in Game 1, Hayden turned in a better performance Saturday, but came up just short in its bid to force a deciding Game 3 today, as Nampa Valley captured the state title at Duck Alley Field in Eagle.

Nick Swenson hit a solo home run and a double for Hayden, the District 1 champions, and Logan Cessna added a double and drove in two runs.

Jake Hamilton drove in the game-winning run with a single for Nampa Valley, the District 2 champions, and Mateo Scott added a double and a single.
