Three tied for lead after first round at Rosauers

LIBERTY LAKE - 2005 champion Ryan Benzel of Pro Golf Discount (Lynnwood, Wash.), 2012 winner David Phay of Whidbey Golf and Country Club (Oak Harbor, Wash.) and Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley Country Club (Kent, Wash.) each shot 7-under par 65 and are tied for the lead after the first day of the 27th Rosauers Open Invitational on Friday at MeadowWood Golf Course.

Brent Walsh (Coeur d'Alene Golf Club) and amateurs Reid Hatley (Hayden Lake) and Kyler Gable (Avondale) are part of a 10-way tie for fourth after shooting 67.

Other local first-round scores from the 54-hole tournament: Mark Poirier (The Highlands), 69; Taylor Porter (Avondale), 70; Brad Arnn (The Highlands) and Darin Vaughan (Twin Lakes Village), 72; Brad Hansen (StoneRidge) and Colin Carlson (Golf Club at Black Rock), 74; Mark Nelson (Circling Raven), Tim Morton (StoneRidge), amateur Ben Nelson (The Highlands) and Aaron Johnson (Black Rock), 75; Matthew Fredrickson (Circling Raven), 81; and TJ Orban (The Coeur d'Alene Resort), 88.

The tourney continues today and concludes Sunday.
