• Public forum set for Cd'A police chief finalists

COEUR d'ALENE - Residents will have an opportunity to meet the two finalists for Coeur d'Alene police chief on Tuesday.

The July 22 public forum, scheduled to run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., will take place in the community room of the Coeur d'Alene Public Library located at 702 E. Front Ave.

The two finalists, Gary Jensen and Lee White, will be in town for on-site interviews with the selection committee and to meet city officials and police personnel.

Coeur d'Alene Human Resources Director Melissa Tosi said in a press release she hopes to have the position filled by September.

Jensen began his career in law enforcement in 1987 as a sheriff's deputy in Utah. He is currently the chief of police in Logan, Utah, where he oversees a department of 116 people with a budget of $10 million.

White, who has been in law enforcement for 21 years, has climbed the ladder at the police department in Mesa, Ariz. He began as a patrol officer and is now the assistant chief of police.

• St. Vincent de Paul's Steak-Fry benefit Saturday

COEUR d'ALENE - St. Vincent de Paul is hosting its sixth annual Steak-Fry at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.

The event features a steak dinner and live entertainment by the Kelly Hughes Band and Colby Acuff.

The proceeds from this event will benefit a warming center this winter for those without adequate protection.

Tickets are $25.
